Has anyone tried acupuncture? I'm a runner & strained a muscle while running. It's been about 2 months & everytime I try to run the pain comes back. The pain is so bad that I'm limping. I've heard alot about acupuncture but I have not actually tried it. Any opinions?

I have never used it for treating pain but I did get treated for a couple of addictions with acupuncture. They put the needles in my ears and had me sit there quietly and meditate for about an hour in my 'Pin head' get-up!
It didn't hurt, and I guess to say the least it was relaxing to sit there in the stillness and quiet. I continued the treatments weekly for about two months before I decided it was just quacky to me. I never felt I could quit smoking or whatevere magic thing was supposed to happen. I've heard other people say it helped them with neck pain and stuff, though.

Our Pastor says it works really well. And, he is a very hard man to convince when it comes to alternative medicine. He has Rheumatoid Arthritis and apparently has used acupuncture at times in his life for pain.
I've considered it too, but I hate needles. I've over come the fear, for the most part, but for some reason, acupuncture freaks me out.

Depends on what kind of pain in my opinion. A pinched nerve would not be a good target physically but there may not be any alternatives. A muscular issue might be helped. I would go with massage before I would go with acupuncture. My daughter-in-law is a licensed but not practicing chiropractor and I do not believe she would recommend acupuncture unless it is a static pain that won't go away. You stand the chance of injuring yourself if you want to run and and treat some issues with a mind control remedy. We considered hiring a technician who practices acupuncture and decided against it. I believe it is a last resort before the knife, but then again some people swear by it.

My dad gets high frequency acupuncture every other week. He had a strok 4-1/2 years ago and has tried this in the last few months. He has no use of his left arm and hand, but he is able to walk. He swears that the acupuncture helps with his walking as he normally walks very slow and with difficulty. I have seen for myself that after a session he walks faster and more fluidly.
