Car Wash Question?

Our scout pack had a car wash as a fundraiser last spring and it was great. You make several hundred dollars for a few hours of hard work. Someone told us though that it is illegal to have them though because of the water runoff.

Does anyone know if this is true? We really want to have another car wash, but won't do it if it is illegal. Some parents say to act like we weren't told that, but now that dh and I have been told it, we aren't going to do it.

I REALLY want to find out the facts on this, because it is a great way to make fast cash without selling something. Even though the parents do most of the washing! :p

I can't imagine it being "illegal", but would certainly be frowned upon if we were under water restrictions. I'd start by calling the owner of the parking lot or store where the car wash is supposed to be held and ask them if it's okay. Maybe even calling your utility district or environmental services department?
