They're going to get your money one way or another. Lower property taxes, and school taxes, add up to sales taxes being raised. What do these people think, we are stupid. We are not going to drive out of The Woodlands to shop, so don't tell me you are going to collect the money from outsiders. Come on Nelda, we have to eat too. Who is going to pay for maintenance you know, cut the medians? Who is going to pay The Service Corp? That's right ladies and gentlemen, you will still have assessments, and you will be paying higher sales tax.

I hate to be rude, but this is just B___ S____! That is a Texas saying and I still say,
Get a Rope! This is Texas not New Jersey.

SMOKE AND MIRRORS
Blair said the ad valorem property tax would not add a new layer of taxation, but rather reduce the assessments property owners pay to their homeowner and commercial associations for municipal services. In addition, taxes paid to The Woodlands Township would be tax-deductible, while assessment fees are not.

Blair said TCID is studying figures on the sales and property taxes that could be generated by the district before making its final decision Aug. 29. Those figures have not yet been made public, so information on when the tax would start or the rate being considered are not available.

What a pile of manure! Yes, an ad valorem tax is deductible and assessments are not but I don't remember electing N.B. to the homeowners association who decides what our assessments will be. How is adding another ad valorem tax not adding another tax layer? Is one of the other taxing authorities going to just go away? Also, we will face a sales tax increase. The cost of living in The Woodlands is getting out of hand. Too many big fish in a small pond and they all want a cut. Before TCID is allowed to do anything about taxation, they should have to convert to an elected board. Anything else is taxation without representation because I don't believe for a minute that Ms. Blair and her cohorts are representing my best interests. I sure didn't get to elect the TCID Board. Look at who they are. Builder puppets.

I'm leery of this proposal. TCID has been loose and free with its money. While I don't like the WCA's slush fund. at least they've been honest about its existence. I have been a strong advocate of self rule for The Woodlands, but I think Tommy Williams, The Woodlands Development Company, TCID, and the MUDs are trying to cram something down our throats. They want to stay ion power and do not want The Woodlands to incorporate. Unless I get some information I can agree with, I will probably vote against all the proposals on the November ballot. I do not trust them to do what is best for the residents (read: little people) of The Woodlands.

PUBLIC HEARING

The Town Center Improvement District will hold a public hearing 9 a.m. Aug. 29 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel, 1601 Lake Robbins Drive, on expanding its boundaries to include most of The Woodlands, including Harper's Landing and Creekside Park Village. Following the public hearing, TCID will hold a special meeting. Among the items that will be discussed are:

9 AM on a Work Day at The Marriott. Or should I say The Developers Hotel.

I now see this as a positive thing actually. I would want to mandate that the taxes will not exceed the current association dues. I would favor total replacement to make the tax writeoff legal. The sales taxes are required to make this work. That is what we all agreed to in the governance committee. 2% will probably be required to meet the financial goals of the community relative to the agreement with Houston and to convert to a muniicipal district. We may not need more than 1% in the initial stage. The issue for the stores in TW will be competition from areas outside of TW. My wife will go outside to save on sales taxes. Outside is not very far for most residents.
