Exclamation What We Borrow $17 Million For

Here is "my read" on what is happening:

The Woodlands Residents are borrowing (and we will pay back) $17 million @ 5.25% (Maybe higher) to give to Houston so they can spend it on the following:

Houston projects

Herman Brown Park, $200,000

Memorial Park Pedestrian Bridge, $500,000

Lake Houston Park, $4.5 million

Holcomb Reconstruction, $3,723,000

N. MacGregor Way Reconstruction, $2.6 million

Cambridge Paving, $400,000

Bayou Drive, $3.8 million

Total: $15, 723,000

I don't see any Hardy Toll Road extension there!!

It gets better...Houston then collect our sales taxes for a total of about $45 Million in the FIRST 30 years.....but the collections go on FOREVER!!

And we the residents get.....THE TOWNSHIP with high property taxes and little resident input!

Do You Care????? Even A Little????

I dont see anything wrong with what Houston and Conroe is doing. We dont want to be annexed so we have agreement. does that agreement mean that Houston is to fix things up here NO. Last time I checked I dont think the Hardy is a city owned street.

Conroe would have annexed Harpers Landing....they built a new firestation at the entrance of HL BEFORE houses were even built....everyone who bought in there KNEW they were Conroe...in the end they cried to TW to "save them" so we paid the ransom.

I was told directly by many Houston City Council members that Houston would NOT annex TW...it did not make economic sense...we could have paid SOME money to Houston, fine...BUT we then should have been released immediately from annexation threat and allowed to incorporate.

Instead we have a "forever" payment to Houston with no benefit of resident input into decisions, no ordinance making authority, not able to employ our own police force, no planning nor zoning. We have government by business people who take care of businesses and the residents pay high property taxes.

As to the Hardy Extension TW residents were told incorrectly that part of the payment to Houston would be used to extend the Hardy and on other MUTUALLY beneficial projects; it ain't going to happen.

Conroe was a "legitimate" annexation threat...Houston was not; and we never should have voted for government by Township (Special Purpose Business District) to avoid a threat that did not exist....it was a ruse for a small Developer/Business group to take complete control of TW.

Cook I take to heart all that you are saying and then I sigh with relief that I moved out. Yes, the people who are running things are not ONLY crooks as MDonn keeps reporting but they are STUPID crooks who have made very poor decisions on behalf of the residents.

You ask "are you going to continue to put up with this?" and the residents reading your post should be giving a resounding "NO"...but please, you appear to have always checked things out and know the facts, can you also be a leader here and tell them what they can do to really get something done and be heard? Is it simply a matter of storming the meetings with hundreds of residents? Is it a matter of banding together and suing them? Or getting legal on your side and proving they are stupid crooks?

Tell this band of residents/listeners the next course of action. I'm sure many are sitting back and saying "but what can I do - I'm only 1 person, 1 vote".

Very good points...and many residents have already started making their voices heard at the Township Board meetings...many residents are speaking to the Board for the alloted 3 minutes prior to the meetings.

Also residents are contacting the Board members by email And writing Letters to Editor Courier/Villager. The more Public our concerns are, the less chance they will be completely ignored.

So attend Board Meetings....schedules, info here:

Here are Board members to contact:

Residents; please speak up...make your concerns known...it can definitely have an effect .

For many, many years the WCA/TWA governed TW with the residents best interests as the goal WITHOUT residents having to be involved.

That is not true under Township...we must constantly speak about our concerns...we are paying for ALL of what they do.

Now THAT was thorough, detailed leadership at its best Cook!

Cook has given TW residents that post here on TOTW excellent info on how to get your voices heard in one small page. If I were a resident, I'd be doing some or ALL of these things and sharing them with other residents who may not frequent this forum.

As a bystander who still loves TW and may, one day move back there, I say this is really important people and it's time to show this lousy group of crooks that the residents are not going to just sit there and get screwed any longer.
